Barney Frank Returns to Washington — in Person and on Film

Former Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., was one of a kind, a self-described “left-handed, gay Jew” known as much for his policy chops as for his verbal bon mots.
So if you’ve missed Frank since he left Congress after the 2012 elections, fear not. He’ll be in town this week for screenings of the documentary about his life, “Compared to What? The Improbable Journey of Barney Frank.” It’s part of the Washington Jewish Film Festival.
The festival is making “Compared to What” a spotlight screening on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Frank will be on hand both evenings after the shows with his husband, Jim Ready, and the filmmakers, Sheila Canavan and Michael Chandler, to discuss the movie and his career.
“Compared to What?” will screen at the Avalon Theater at 5612 Connecticut Ave. NW on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. and on Wednesday at the D.C. Jewish Community Center at 1529 16th Street NW at 6:15 p.m. For tickets, go to the festival’s website at https://wjff.org.
