With eyes on a potential Kansas Senate primary, Republican Sen. Jerry Moran has formally filed the paperwork to seek another term.

“There’s an anger, a frustration, a genuine fear about where our nation is headed,” Moran says in a video accompanying the announcement. “About politics, really about politicians who have let us down. Why have we let the insiders — those are satisfied with the status quo — take the front seat while our conservative values, changing course, stopping the president take the back seat?”

Moran faces the prospect of a primary challenge from Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., who has been dropping hints that he may make a run at unseating the incumbent in the Aug. 2 primary.

A senior campaign aide to Moran told Roll Call he had long been planning to make the filing in April.
