New Jersey voters have this to say about a Vice President Chris Christie: Fuggedaboutit.  

A poll released Wednesday by Quinnipiac University found that one in four New Jersey voters thought presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump should drop the idea of picking Christie as a running mate.  

“Christie-for-President was a flop and, as far as the local folks are concerned, so is Christie-for-Vice President,” said Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director Maurice Carroll.

The poll also found the lowest approval rating ever for Christie, and the worst approval rating in six years for any governor in the nine states surveyed by the university.  

Trump chose Christie last week to lead his transition team. The poll found that 64 percent of New Jersey voters disapprove of the job Christie is doing as governor, compared to 29 percent who approve. Christie’s previous lowest rating on the same poll was 56 to 38 percent in April 2015.  

“It’s a drastic decline in popularity for a governor who once looked like a strong choice for president,” Carroll said.  

Chris Christie’s Conundrum

Christie rode to office in 2009 on a reputation as a corruption-busting U.S. attorney. But his presidential aspirations were hobbled by questions surrounding the traffic jam scandal on the George Washington Bridge, and conservatives never truly forgave him for his embrace of President Barack Obama in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.    

Christie has said he did now know about the plan to close lanes leading to the George Washington Bridge — dubbed “Bridgegate” — allegedly in retaliation against the Fort Lee mayor who declined to endorse Christie’s second gubernatorial bid.   

In December, when Christie was still vying for the presidential nomination, Trump had a different take:  Christie, he said, “totally knew.”
