Feinstein Dangles Chardonnay Before Casey, Portman
Senator bets on California teams in the NHL and NBA finals
California has a team in both sports finals this week, and the state’s senior senator hopes to trash talk her way to victory.
The NHL Stanley Cup finals pits the San Jose Sharks against the Pittsburgh Penguins. What’s on the line?
California Sen. Dianne Feinstein wagered California chardonnay while fellow Democratic Sen. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania bet Wigle Whiskey, made in Pittsburgh.
“The Penguins may have star power, but I don’t think they can match our depth,” Feinstein said in a news release .
Casey disagreed, saying, “The Penguins have been the hottest team in hockey since January, so I have no doubt that they will win against the Sharks.”
The Penguins lead 1-0 in the seven-game series. Game Two is Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
In the NBA finals, the Golden State Warriors will take on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Feinstein once again wagered a case of chardonnay while Ohio GOP Sen. Rob Portman bet a case of Great Lakes beer from Cleveland’s Great Lakes Brewing Company.
“Down 3 to 1 in the Western Conference Finals, it seemed everyone in the basketball world wrote off the Warriors,” Feinstein wrote in a press release .
“But the Golden State faithful never gave up. We knew this record-setting team wouldn’t go quietly.”
Portman touted Cleveland’s stars LeBron James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving in his trash talk against Feinstein.
“With the ‘Big Three’ healthy and with one more year of experience under their belt, the team is hitting their stride at just the right time,” he said, seeking revenge for his team’s loss to Golden State in last year’s finals.
The finals start Thursday in Oakland.
