Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, called House Speaker Paul D. Ryan “out of touch” when it comes to Islam after Sunday’s mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.

In an interview with Breitbart News , the former Alaska governor said presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was right to have called for a ban on immigrants and refugees from Muslim countries until better screening is in place.

The Breitbart story summed up Palin’s criticism as Ryan’s “gutless reaction on radical Islamic terrorism.”

Palin took issue with Ryan’s criticism of Trump’s proposal , and said that instead of embracing the ban,  the 2012 GOP vice presidential nominee sided with the Obama administration.

“What is the number of lives lost before our leadership will wake up and deal with this problem?” she asked.

“They will strike again. They will continue,” Palin said in reference to terrorists.

Palin was one of the first major Trump backers in the primaries.

“We just want the best for this exceptional nation,” Palin said. “We do want it to be great again, and that is why so many of us jumped on the Trump train.”

Ryan issued a statement after the shootings at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, saying, “We need are a nation at war with Islamist terrorists.”

He added, “Theirs is a repressive, hateful ideology that respects no borders.”
