Democrat state Sen. Ruben Kihuen on Tuesday won the Democratic Primary in Nevada’s 4^th Congressional District, advancing to face Republican Rep. Crescent Hardy in a race House Democrats consider one of their top targets this November.  

Kihuen defeated seven other Democrats for the nomination, including former lieutenant governor candidate Lucy Flores and philanthropist Susie Lee, according to the Associated Press.  

With 23 percent reporting, Kihuen had 42 percent of the vote. Flores had 25 percent, while Lee had 20 percent.   

The primary drew interest from some of the party’s most influential leaders and groups. Kihuen, for instance, had the support of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and former President Bill Clinton. Lee had the back of EMILY’s List.  

Flores, meanwhile, had the support of Bernie Sanders, who helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the former lieutenant governor candidate.  

The district, which stretches from the north Las Vegas suburbs to central Nevada, leans Democratic: Barack Obama won it with 54 percent of the vote in 2014.
