After House Democrats on Thursday ended their sit-in on the House floor, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi vowed to continue their fight for gun control until they get a vote.

“Let me be really clear about this: We cannot stop until we get a bill,” the California Democrat said.

Members said they plan to take their fight home to their districts for the Independence Day recess, and when they return on July 5, they’ll continue to discuss how to push for gun control measures in Washington, Pelosi said.

“We’ll finish here and then we’ll have our activism for all of next week,” she said.

Pelosi lauded the hundreds of supporters who gathered outside the Capitol as Democrats protested inside, pointing out that several stayed through the night and endured an early morning thunderstorm.

In addition to the supporters outside, Democratic offices received “hundreds of thousands of calls and visits,” she said.

In 2008, as House majority leader, Pelosi ordered the House floor cameras turned off on a Republican protest on energy prices. Asked about that and what the Democrats’ sit-in means for the rule that allows the majority to have control of the cameras, Pelosi said it was “almost irrelevant” because of the other means in which members can broadcast their message.

“The large number of people watching it were watching on their own technology,” she said.
