In polls released the day before New York’s congressional primaries, Democrat Zephyr Teachout and Republican John Faso widened their leads in their respective primaries in the state’s 19th District.
Teachout led Will Yandik 62 to 23 percent in the latest Time Warner Cable/Siena College poll. Three weeks ago she led by 20 points.
New York Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand and Charles E. Schumer have endorsed Teachout, who’s also received fundraising help from Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
On the Republican side, former assemblyman John Faso led Andrew Heaney 58 to 28 percent, up from a 22-point lead three weeks ago.
The polls surveyed 494 likely Republican primary voters and 598 likely Democratic primary voters from June 19 to 22 on land lines and cell phones. The margin of error is 4.4 percentage points for the Republicans and 4 points for the Democrats.
Incumbent 19th District Rep. Chris Gibson, a moderate Republican, is retiring at the end of this Congress.
