Democrat Emily Cain of Maine raised $543,000 in the second quarter of 2016, according to numbers obtained by Roll Call.

She ended the period with $1.1 million in the bank for her rematch against Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin in Maine’s 2nd District. Seventy-five percent of her quarterly donations came from individuals.

Poliquin, one of the most vulnerable members of the House , has not yet released his quarterly fundraising haul.

“The congressman will maintain his nearly $1 million cash-on-hand advantage in this race,” campaign consultant Brent Littlefield said Wednesday.

Why This Vulnerable Freshman Is Surprising People

]

A member of the Financial Services Committee, Poliquin began the race with an impressive monetary advantage. His 2015 first quarter fundraising haul was the second highest of any freshman, while his Democratic rival got off to a slow start.

Cain’s fundraising has since picked up. She outraised Poliquin by $57,000 during the first quarter of this year, which ended March 31.

And she slightly outraised Poliquin during the pre-primary reporting period between April 1 and May 25, raising $221,000 to the incumbent’s $194,000 . But Poliquin still ended the period with more than a million dollars more in the bank than Cain.

The Democrat’s fundraising is also a pace ahead of where it was two years ago. She hauled in only $265,000 during the second quarter of 2014 and ended the period with just $243,000.

Cain went on to lose the 2014 election to Poliquin by 5 points. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee encouraged her to run again in 2016 soon after her loss.

Recent polling from the DCCC and the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram has shown a tied race this year.

Vulnerable Freshman Thinks Trump Will Win It All

]

Democrats are making this Tossup district, which votes Democratic in presidential years, a top target and are trying to tie Poliquin — who’s so far evaded questions about his support for Donald Trump — to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
