Ryan Hopeful Trump Will ‘Endeavor to Try to Change’
Advice for Trump's VP pick: 'Get thick skin'
Despite criticisms of Donald Trump, House Speaker Paul D. Ryan said in an NPR interview Thursday that the presumptive Republican presidential nominee will change.
“I believe he’s going to endeavor to try,” Ryan said. “I just think improving temperament and inclusive rhetoric, and an agenda that invites people into our party is something that I think anybody going from a primary to a general election needs a transition.”
Ryan has previously denounced Trump for his disparaging of a Mexican-American judge, calling it “the textbook definition of a racist comment.” He also decried the billionaire mogul’s unwillingness to reject former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.
The Republican vice presidential nominee in 2012 also had some advice for Trump’s vice presidential pick (since confirmed to be Indiana Gov. Mike Pence ).
