Celebrities on Trump: He’ll Protect Family, Country
Duck Dynasty's Robertson: 'Donald Trump Will Have your Back'
A reality TV show star and a heartthrob from the 1980s joined the chorus of voices Monday night hailing likely Republican nominee Donald Trump as the right man to lead the country.
“I can promise you this: No matter who you are, Donald Trump will have your back,” said Willie Robertson, the star of “Duck Dynasty,” a reality show about a duck-hunting Louisiana family.
Scott Baio, best known for his role on the hit series “Charles in Charge,” followed him on stage, saying he trusts Trump with the safety of his family and country.
The actor said Trump invited him to speak at the convention.
“Our country right now is in a very bad spot. you can feel it and you can see if everywhere,” Baio said. “There’s no stability and nothing seems right.”
“All the things that we hold dear are being attacked every single day,” he said. “We need Donald Trump to fix this.”
The lineup of prime time celebrity speakers also included Antonio Sabato, Jr.
Sabato, a former soap opera actor, said he supported Trump because he agrees with his stances on immigration.
The Italian immigrant said he wanted to see people who want to come to the U.S. follow laws to establish citizenship. He also said Trump’s rhetoric was not hateful, as some have suggested.
“Donald Trump is for unity,” Sabato said.
Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, is expected to give the evening’s keynote address.
