Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal said Wednesday that a senator’s daughter should not get special treatment when it comes to an investigations of her pharmaceutical company.

Blumenthal indicated that the fact the CEO of the company behind the skyrocketing price of EpiPens is the daughter of fellow Democrat Joe Manchin III of West Virginia should not affect related inquiries.

“The issue here is about Mylan’s morally bankrupt price gouging strategy that has made this life-saving drug unaffordable to families across America, not the identity of Mylan’s CEO,” he said in a statement.

On Tuesday, CQ Healthbeat posted a report noting that the company’s CEO, Heather Bresch, is Manchin’s daughter.

Manchin’s office did not immediately respond to a query about the cost of the EpiPen, a medical device used to counteract severe allergic reactions.

Blumenthal said he called for a Senate Judiciary Committee investigation into Mylan’s “appalling astronomic price increases for EpiPens.”

“If the Senate Judiciary Committee holds a hearing — as I believe it should — it should include consumers, patients, health insurers, and appropriate Mylan officials, no matter what their position.” he said.

Blumenthal is set to highlight his push for lower prices for the devices during an event Wednesday afternoon at the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford with parents of children who need the EpiPens, as well as medical providers.
