The Senate Republican family just got a little bit bigger.

Tom Cotton of Arkansas welcomed his second child Wednesday night, a boy.

Cotton and his wife Anna already have a 19-month-old son, Gabriel.

The 39-year-old senator said at a Heritage Foundation breakfast event in Washington on Tuesday that the plan was for his wife’s labor to be induced that evening. The birth ended up happening the next day.

“You dodged a bullet getting me today, my wife is going to be induced later tonight with our second child,” he told the Heritage audience on Tuesday. “It’s three weeks early so when I committed to this, I didn’t know it was going to happen the same day.”

He added, “As I look at my little toddler, when I’m not trying to get him out of the Christmas tree, or I think about my baby that’s on the way in just a few hours, I think about the kind of country that I’m going to leave behind for them.”

The new baby was the second piece of good news for the senator on Wednesday. His state won the Arkansas vs. Texas cheese dip competition at the Republican Senate Steering Committee lunch in the Capitol.

He missed the lunch because he was home waiting for the baby, but tweeted about the cheesy victory.
