When members of Congress were sworn in on Tuesday, Oregon Democratic Rep. Kurt Schrader was conspicuously absent. Now, it has been revealed that Schrader is currently on his honeymoon.

According to the (Salem) Statesman Journal, Schrader’s spokeswoman initially declined to indicate who his new wife is or where they are.

When Roll Call contacted Schrader spokeswoman Carlee Griffeth on Wednesday, she said the congressman was on a “personal trip.”

Paul Gage, Schrader’s chief of staff, told the newspaper that the wedding took place on New Year’s Eve in Maryland and the newlyweds are honeymooning “out of the country.”

Griffeth later told the newspaper that Schrader married Susan Mora, a Pepco executive. She has been the director of federal affairs for the energy provider, the Statesman Journal reported.

A spokeswoman for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Schrader informed her of his absence. The congressman is expected to be sworn in next Tuesday.

Schrader was previously married for 35 years to Susan Schrader, a former Oregon state senator and county commissioner, before the couple divorced in 2011.
