The newest “Sesame Street” muppet, Julia, is coming to Capitol Hill on Tuesday. She has autism and helps to bring attention to the long-running children’s show initiative, “Sesame Street and Autism: See Amazing in All Children.”

Another muppet, Abby Cadabby, will join Julia, as well as actress Holly Robinson Peete for a panel discussion to announce the preliminary research results of the initiative. It was launched in 2015 to build understanding about autism.

Sesame Workshop teamed up with Georgetown University Medical Center, in collaboration with Children’s National Health System to conduct testing about its online materials.

The panel starts at 11 a.m. in the Capitol Visitor Center, Room HVC-201AB. Watch for HOH’s coverage. World Autism Awareness Day was on Sunday.

World War I exhibit

The Library of Congress opens a new exhibit today entitled “Echoes of the Great War: American Experiences of World War I.” It is located in the Southwest Gallery on the second floor of the Thomas Jefferson Building. The exhibit covers U.S. involvement in World War I from April 6, 1917, to Nov. 11, 1918. It’s free and runs until January 2019.

Also today at the library is a lecture, “World War I Sheet Music at the Library of Congress: America’s War, as Viewed by Publishers and the Public,” by Paul Fraunfelter at noon. Tickets are free and available online.

Former D.C. councilwoman passes away

The former District of Columbia councilwoman who represented Capitol Hill, Sharon Ambrose, passed away last weekend. Ambrose was the Ward 6 member of the council from 1997 to 2007 and was previously a council staffer. She was 77.

Current Ward 6 Councilman Charles Allen saluted Ambrose’s “hard work” and “vision” during her council tenure.

“Whether Sharon was fighting to protect and preserve community anchors like Eastern Market for the next generation, or shaping a shared vision to bring a long-forgotten Old Naval Hospital back to life as the thriving Hill Center, her work was integral to many of the things the Capitol Hill community enjoys and relies on every day,” he said.

New firm launched

Lobbyist Reilly O’Connor launched his own firm, Lincoln ParkGroup, on Monday. He left the Wine and Spirit Wholesalers of America, where he worked for nine years.

-Rep.  Mimi Walters, R-Calif., who went into the House chamber before the House gaveled back in at 5 p.m. on Monday. The congresswoman wanted to give a one minute speech, only to be told that they were going to start on general debate and one minutes had been completed earlier.
