Dent: There’s No Illuminati at the FBI
Comes as Republican members talk about a secret society in FBI
Pennsylvania Rep. Charlie Dent told fellow Republican members of Congress they should “cease and desist” with their conspiracy theories about the FBI and a secret society.
Speaking on “Morning Joe” on Thursday, Dent pushed back against theories being circulated by conservative members saying that there is a secret society within the bureau that is planning on derailing President Donald Trump.
“No I do not believe there’s an Illuminati at the FBI,” he said.
Dent, who announced last year he would not seek re-election, said there are members of the House Republican caucus who are former FBI agents and said the GOP brands itself as the party of law and order.
“We were mortified a couple years ago when many on the far left were launching these attacks against police,” he said. “And now here we are as a party trying to brand ourselves as somehow suggesting that the men and women of the FBI are not as professional as they ought to be.”
Dent also said that despite the conspiracy theories, FBI Director Christopher Wray, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein were all appointed by Trump.
“I think my colleagues ought to cease and desist from some of this rhetoric against our federal law enforcement officials, who are very professional and thorough,” he said.
