Woman Who Broke House Page Program’s Glass Ceiling Reflects 45 Years Later

In 1973, Felda Looper of Oklahoma accepted the invitation of Speaker Carl Albert to become the first-ever female member of the House page crew. The Watergate scandal dominated the news and the women’s liberation movement was gaining steam, but Looper told Roll Call in a visit back to the Capitol recently that she didn’t set out to be the “first.” In her own words, watch as she reflects on this prominent Capitol Hill first.
