While Democrats moved to adjourn the first day of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, protesters erupted one by one to interrupt the proceedings. The protesters pleas ranged from health care to same-sex marriage. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., called the session a “charade and mockery of our norms” due to the lack of availability of documents from Kavanaugh’s time as White House staff secretary. Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, continued the proceedings after the initial chaos from Democrats and protesters. Protesters have continued to interrupt portions of the opening statements from members of both sides of the committee.
