Hundreds of protesters poured into the Hart Senate Office building Tuesday to oppose the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The protesters represented a wide range of liberal issues, including defenders of gay marriage, the 2010 health care law, abortion access and minority groups. “If any of [the senators] are dependent on African American votes for re-election, this is a non-negotiable issue,” said Derrick Johnston, president and CEO of the NAACP, of his group’s opposition to Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the high court. And while most protesters were anti-Kavanaugh, several demonstrators present in the Hart building were there to voice full support for the judge’s record during the nominee’s first day of hearings.
