Longest serving member of Congress had a heart attack last week

Former Michigan Democratic Rep. John D. Dingell could be released from the hospital as early as Tuesday following his heart attack last week.

Dingell, 92, who retired at the end of 2015 as the longest serving member of Congress, announced his pending hospital release on Twitter on Monday in his usual joking style. 

“The only internet rumor I care about right now is the breaking news that I could be released from the hospital as early as tomorrow,” he tweeted.

Dingell was alluding to the flood of conflicting media reports that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was either resigning or expected to be fired by President Donald Trump.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement that Trump and Rosenstein would meet Thursday in Washington to discuss the deputy attorney general’s future. Trump is currently in New York for the United Nations General Assembly. 

Dingell’s wife, Debbie, succeeded him as Michigan’s 12 District representative.
