Pelosi Endorses Hoyer, Clyburn for Nos. 2 and 3 Leadership Positions
“House Democrats must show … we are prepared to govern and get the job done”
House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi on Monday endorsed her top two deputies, Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland and James E. Clyburn of South Carolina, to remain in their respective Nos. 2 and 3 leadership positions in the majority.
Hoyer, the current minority whip, is running for majority leader and Clyburn, the current assistant Democratic leader, is running for majority whip. Both are running unopposed after Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette dropped out of the whip race Monday.
Pelosi, who is running for speaker, suggested that the current leadership team is best prepared to lead the caucus next Congress so that the new Democratic majority can begin to quickly enact its agenda.
“House Democrats must show on the first day of the 116th Congress that we are prepared to govern and get the job done for the American people,” the California Democrat said in a statement. “Honoring the guidance of our Founders, E Pluribus Unum, our diverse and dynamic House Democratic Majority will decisively show that we are united by our commitment to hard-working Americans. I endorse and look forward to working with Steny Hoyer as Majority Leader and Jim Clyburn as Majority Whip in the 116th Congress.”
