Schumer says Trump ‘redefined chutzpah’ when he called the Democratic Party ‘anti-Jewish’
New York senator, who is Jewish, was responding to comments made outside the White House
Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer says that President Donald Trump calling the Democratic Party the “anti-Israel, anti-Jewish party” has “redefined chutzpah.”
“For the president, who when neo-Nazis marched in Charlottesville in front of a synagogue and said ‘burn it down’ and he said ‘both sides’ are to blame, this is a new divisive low,” the Democrat from New York, who is Jewish, wrote on Facebook.
Speaking outside the White House before departing for Alabama Friday morning, the president had said that recent comments by Democratic Rep. Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota show “the Democrats have become an anti-Israel party” and an “anti-Jewish party.”

He called a resolution the House passed in the wake of the congresswoman’s remarks about politicians being influenced by Jewish donors a “disgrace.”
“His comments show the president is only interested in playing the politics of division and not in fighting anti-Semitism,” Schumer wrote in response Friday afternoon.
Sen. Brian Schatz, a Democrat from Hawaii, also reacted Friday to an official White House Twitter account’s tweet featuring video of Trump’s statement about the Democratic Party.
Schatz again tried to keep the focus on pressing policy issues.
“The thing about this tweet is that they are suing in federal court to take your healthcare away and are raiding military construction money for the wall,” he tweeted.
