There has been an uptick in monster sightings on Capitol Hill in recent weeks. Protesters from Public Citizen, a liberal think tank, and Clean Water Action, an environmental advocacy group, wore in swamp creature masks on various occasions to protest the nomination of acting Interior Secretary David Bernhardt. “Donald Trump often talked about wanting to drain the swamp, but really with a choice like David Bernhardt he is filling D.C. with more swamp monsters,” Madeline Page, a campaign coordinator with Public Citizen, told Roll Call. The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee voted 14-6 to advance Bernhardt’s nomination, which will likely be voted on by the full Senate soon.
