Woman could get year behind bars for ‘milkshaking’ Rep. Matt Gaetz

A protester faces up to one year in prison for “milkshaking” Rep. Matt Gaetz.
Amanda L. Kondrat’yev pleaded guilty Thursday to one charge of assaulting a government official after hurling a clear cup filled with red liquid at the Florida Republican as he left a town hall in June.

At the time, Kondrat’yev was holding a sign that read “Gaetz wipe the blood off your hands, A+ rating NRA, save our kids vote Gaetz out 2020,” according to court records.
The news was first reported by the Associated Press.
Kondrat’yev will report to a pre-sentencing hearing at the Northern Florida U.S. District Court on October 17.
Kondrat’yev’s arrest came amid a rash of headlines about British protesters drenching rightwing political figures in milkshakes.
“Matt Gaetz thinks cups are deadly weapons but guns are cool for school,” Kondrat’yev’s Twitter page reads, an apparent reference to the congressman’s clash earlier this year with the father of a slain student in the Parkland school shooting.
Gaetz told Fox News in June he would press charges against his former challenger. Kondrat’yev briefly ran in the 1st District in 2016, but eventually withdrew.
“I am going to press charges … I think it’s really important to send a message that we as conservatives have a right to our views, just like anybody else has a right to their views,” Gaetz said in an interview on Fox News.
