Dr. Alejandro Rios Tovar, a trauma surgeon at the University Medical Center of El Paso, Texas, testified before the House Judiciary Committee Tuesday. In his opening testimony at the hearing titled “Protecting America from Assault Weapons,” he recounted the events after the shooting at an El Paso Walmart on Aug. 3, 2019. “I’m not a military surgeon, but what I saw looked like a war zone” Rios Tovar vividly shared stories from the operating room that night with members of the committee. They could be seen reacting emotionally to his testimony from the C-SPAN footage of the hearing.

WARNING: Parts of the testimony are graphic and some viewers might find it disturbing.
