As House Democrats push towards impeachment proceedings for President Donald Trump, House Chaplain Patrick J. Conroy delivered a prayer Tuesday referencing the “constitutional issues facing our nation” and calling the times “historic.” Conroy also prayed for “love for and dedication to our form of government prevail over partisan arguments.”

While the prayer stopped short of taking a side and rather called for  “serious consideration” from both sides of the aisle, it was notable as opening prayers in the chamber typically stay away from the political issues of the day.

Tuesday’s prayer opened a 4½-minute pro forma session of the House, as members are in their home states and districts for a two-week recess.
