GOP Sen. John Kennedy defended calling Speaker Nancy Pelosi “dumb” at a rally with President Donald Trump in his home state of Louisiana Wednesday evening.

“I didn’t mean it as disrespectful, I didn’t mean it as disrespectful at all,” Kennedy said Thursday.

Surface transportation bill approved by House committee

House Republicans had hoped to pass a bill Thursday that would allow construction of a Smithsonian museum of women’s history on the National Mall, while also banning transgender exhibits and handing President Donald Trump the final say over its location. But in the end they couldn’t get the votes.
