Arm’s Length

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers led a march and rally in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, using the event to protest what it alleges are anti-worker policies pushed by the Bush administration. IAM led protesters from Capitol Hill up Pennsylvania Avenue to Freedom Plaza, where the organization’s president, R. Thomas Buffenbarger, encouraged strong union participation in November’s presidential election. The combination of energetic fist pumping and a creative camera angle gives the appearance that Buffenbarger is hiding behind a sign, but rest assured, he was outfront and outspoken.
