Pin Oak Planted in Memory

Kansas Rep. Joseph Taggart got some help from his wife and children back in 1916, when the family planted a pin oak tree on the Capitol grounds on Arbor Day. That tree was one of five memorial trees lost recently when the East Front was leveled to make way for the subterranean Capitol Visitor Center. But all was not lost. Kansas Rep. Dennis Moore and Landscape Architect of the Capitol Matthew Evans planted a new pin oak on the East Lawn of the Capitol in memory of the late Rep. Taggart.
