Virginia: Connolly Maintains Big Lead in Primary Survey

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerry Connolly released his second poll in as many months on the 11th district race, showing that he holds a substantial lead over former Rep. Leslie Byrne, his top opponent in the June 10 Democratic primary.

Connolly led Byrne 45 percent to 25 percent in the poll of 500 likely Democratic primary voters that was conducted by Lake Research Partners March 24-27.

Connolly’s lead over Byrne was better among men (25 points) than among women (15 points). He also performed slightly better among voters older than 55 (21 points) than among voters younger than 55 (17 points).

The survey had a 4.4 point margin of error.

In his earlier poll that was released in March but conducted in early January, Connolly held a 23-point lead over Byrne. The winner will be favored to replace retiring Rep. Tom Davis (R).
