Reid Repeats Charges of GOP Obstructionism

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said midday Thursday that Republicans are preventing or slowing progress on two bills that Democrats are aiming to complete.

Reid told reporters Thursday afternoon that the housing bill and legislation that would fund foreign programs for HIV/AIDS assistance are being held hostage by GOP obstructionism.

“It has nothing to do with ideology. It has everything to do with obstructionism,” Reid said, arguing that Senate Republicans are forcing the chamber into a “procedural quagmire” that has both blocked several major proposals and pushed many bills through time-consuming parliamentary hoops.
