Durbin Says Focus Should Be on Energy, Heating Aid

Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) criticized Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) for blocking the low-income heating bill in a bid to focus the Senate on energy proposals, saying that lawmakers could consider both heating and something addressing gasoline. “The people who will face desperate circumstances in their home are going to need help, whether it is air conditioning now or heating in the winter. We should do both. We ought to pass this LIHEAP bill on a bipartisan basis and we ought to also address the energy issues around the cost of gasoline.”
