Bipartisan Ceremony in Rotunda Wednesday

Top Congressional leaders will take part in a ceremony Wednesday morning to honor the 60th anniversary of racial integration in the armed services.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) will gather in the Capitol Rotunda at 11 a.m. to commemorate President Truman’s executive order that marked the beginning of racial integration in the armed services.

Other attendees will include Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and former Secretary of State and ex-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Colin Powell.
