New Jersey: Norcross Double-Cross? Boss’ Brother May Run

The Garden State political blog PolitickerNJ.com was reporting Wednesday afternoon that Donald Norcross, the brother of Southern New Jersey Democratic Party boss George Norcross, will be the Democratic nominee to replace Rep. Robert Andrews (D) in the 1st district.

Donald Norcross, the South Jersey AFL-CIO president and Camden County Democratic Party co-chairman, would replace Camille Andrews, the wife of the Congressman, on the ballot. After Robert Andrews announced an 11th-hour Senate bid in the spring, Camille Andrews was tapped by local party leaders as a placeholder candidate, and she easily won the June primary.

The Web site cited unnamed sources who said that the decision to send George Norcross to Congress appears nearly final despite some speculation that Congressman Andrews would run again for the House after losing the Senate primary to Sen. Frank Lautenberg. George Norcross was a key supporter of Andrews in his Senate bid.

The 1st district is a safely Democratic seat and the party nominee — regardless of whether it is Andrews, his wife or Donald Norcross — should cruise to victory in November.
