Wyoming: Romney Backs Lummis in State’s at-Large Seat

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) has endorsed ex-state Treasurer Cynthia Lummis (R) in her bid to succeed Rep. Barbara Cubin (R) in the Equality State’s only House seat.

Although Romney’s endorsement of a fellow Republican is not surprising, his backing could be a boost for Lummis, who is facing 2006 Democratic nominee Gary Trauner.

Romney won Wyoming’s GOP presidential caucus back in January, and has considerable popularity in the Mountain West.

Cubin is retiring, and Trauner is running again after coming within 1,012 votes of knocking her off in 2006. The Democrat, an internet entrepreneur, has made Wyoming’s lone House seat more competitive than otherwise expected given the strong conservative bend of the state.
