Ensign’s Interns Looking for New Gigs

Interns for embattled Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) are apparently jumping ship in the wake of his acknowledgment that he had an affair with a former staffer.

In an e-mail sent to intern coordinators in Senate offices on Thursday afternoon, Ensign’s coordinator Jessica Walton said she is looking to place an unspecified number of the Nevada Republican’s interns in other offices. “This is Jessica from Ensign’s office. I am trying to find out if anyone has any openings for interns. I have some really great interns that want to relocate to another office. If you have anything or know of someone who does please let me know,— Walton wrote in the e-mail.

Ensign’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and it was unclear whether the interns are from his personal office or from the Republican Policy Committee. Ensign had been chairman of the committee until Wednesday when he announced he was stepping down.

Ensign confessed to the affair with the former campaign aide on Tuesday. He has given no indication that he intends to resign his Senate seat as a result of the scandal.
