Obama Says Energy Bill Is Good for Economy and Environment

President Barack Obama appeared in the Rose Garden on Thursday to put in a pitch for the energy bill, characterizing the measure as a jobs bill that will help the environment and mostly pay for itself.“Instead of increasing the deficit, it’s paid for by the polluters,— Obama said. “I urge every Member of Congress, Democrat and Republican, to come together to support this legislation,— he said.Appearing on MSNBC after Obama made his comments, Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), who is helping lead opposition to the bill, said the legislation was instead a jobs killer.“The last thing we need during this difficult national recession is to pass a national energy tax that will cost millions of jobs,— he said.
