Illinois: Hastert Visits Capitol on Fundraising Blitz

Attorney Ethan Hastert (R) swung through Washington, D.C., this week on a fundraising blitz that included events hosted by his father, former Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), and House GOP leaders. Ethan Hastert is challenging Rep. Bill Foster (D) in an attempt to win his father’s old seat.

Hastert was in town for Tuesday’s unveiling of Speaker Hastert’s official portrait at the Capitol. According to a copy of his partial schedule obtained by Roll Call, Ethan Hastert was scheduled to attend a Tuesday “meet and greet— at Disney Government Relations and Archer Daniels Midland Company before attending the portrait unveiling at the Capitol. Hastert was also scheduled to attend a fundraising reception for his campaign at a private home later that evening with several former top staffers from his father’s office.

Dennis Hastert was scheduled to headline a fundraising breakfast Wednesday morning, where the requested contributions were $1,000 per political action committee and $500 per person.

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.), Chief Deputy Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.) were scheduled to attend a fundraiser at the Capitol Hill Club for the younger Hastert on Wednesday evening. The ticket costs for that event ranged from $1,000 per person to $5,000 per PAC.

Foster won a 2008 special election following Dennis Hastert’s resignation. Foster easily won a full term last November and plans to run for re-election in 2010.
