HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Hop to It
The guest list for Thursday night’s “beer summit— at the White House is pretty exclusive, but you can mimic the experience — at least when it comes to the brew.
[IMGCAP(1)]Plenty of bars around town offer specials on the three beers the White House reportedly will serve tonight: Blue Moon, Red Stripe and Bud Light.
Bud, of course, is the easiest to find. Happy hours at Capitol Hill bars Hawk ’n’ Dove, 18th Amendment, Pour House and My Brother’s Place all offer deals on President Barack Obama’s sud of choice.
For Red Stripe (the favorite of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates), try Cantina Marina, which offers $4.50 bottles on Thursdays. And for discounted Blue Moon, which Sgt. James Crowley will reportedly be swilling, there’s downtown’s Laughing Man Pub, where pints are $4.
Now that’s our idea of diplomacy.
Second Act for Second Amendments. The popular Members-only band, the Second Amendments, suffered a breakup worthy of a VH-1 “Behind the Music— special, but a version of the band is getting back together on Friday.
Rep. Collin Peterson (D-Minn.), Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.) and former Rep. Kenny Hulshof (R-Mo.) will perform at waterfront bar Cantina Marina along with Blame It on Jane, another band popular with the Capitol Hill set.
The Blame It on Jane/Second Amendments end-of-session party has been an annual tradition for the past three years, but the 2008 elections wreaked havoc with the Members’ musical lineup.
Now the musical act is being billed as a “special guest appearance by Second Amendments members.—
