HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Dancing With Another Congressional Star

Move over, Tom DeLay — you’re not the only politician with moves. Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.) is following the cha-cha-cha-ing footsteps of the former Majority Leader by entering a ballroom dance competition.[IMGCAP(1)]Local paper Tacoma Weekly reports that Smith will perform in “Dancing With the Tacoma Stars,— a fundraiser for the Tacoma Musical Playhouse featuring local celebs including state Sen. Debbie Regala and Lakewood Mayor Doug Richardson. The story is accompanied by a photo of the Congressman (in rehearsal gear of khakis and a button-down shirt, with nary a sequin in sight) practicing his moves with his daughter, Kendall. Smith spokesman Michael Amato tells HOH that his boss has been taking weekly dance lessons for a few months in preparation. “While Congressman Smith won’t be wearing a leopard-trimmed dance outfit, I do think his two-step has the potential to raise a substantial amount of money for the Tacoma Musical Playhouse,— Amato says.
