Illinois: Most Democratic Voters Undecided in Senate Race

State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias holds a relatively small lead in the Democratic primary for the Land of Lincoln’s open Senate seat, but a majority of voters are undecided according to a polling memo released by former Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman’s (D) campaign.

A Garin-Hart-Yang poll paid for by Hoffman’s campaign showed Giannoulias with 26 percent of the vote, former Chicago Urban League President Cheryle Robinson Jackson with 12 percent of the vote, Hoffman with 7 percent of the vote and 55 percent of voters undecided.

The Oct. 2-4 poll surveyed 505 Democratic primary voters and had a margin of error of 4.4 points.

The primary is scheduled for Feb. 2.

Inslee Throws Support To Seals in 10th District

Marketing consultant Dan Seals (D) announced Wednesday that Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) is backing his campaign for the second cycle in a row. Seals, who won his party’s nod in the 2006 and 2008 cycles, will face state Rep. Julie Hamos in the Feb. 2 Democratic primary.

“With Dan Seals in Congress, the citizens of the 10th Congressional district will have a leader committed to a cleaner and healthier environment for generations to come,— Inslee said in a statement.

Inslee is Seals’ first Congressional endorsement of this cycle, although the Washington Democrat endorsed his campaign in 2008. Hamos announced earlier this year that Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) is supporting her campaign.

Several Republicans are also running in the northern Chicago suburban district that Rep. Mark Kirk (R) is vacating to run for Senate. Both parties are expected to target the seat next year.
