Maryland: Big Names Drop In for Harris Money Events
State Sen. Andy Harris (R) is calling on a slew of big-name party operatives over the next three weeks to host fundraising events for his 1st district Congressional campaign before the end of the year.
On Wednesday, Republican National Committee Chairman and former Maryland Senate candidate Michael Steele will head to the Eastern Shore to join the state Senator for a $250-per-head event in Chestertown.
Then, on Dec. 2, Republican Study Committee Chairman Tom Price (Ga.) is heading to Cambridge to headline a reception for Harris. The $125-per-person event is being hosted by a slew of Eastern Shore state legislators, including state Sen. Rich Colburn (R), who has run for the 1st district seat in the past, and state Del. Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio (R), who was mentioned as a possible candidate earlier this year but has since said she intends to run for re-election.
The following week, former Gov. Bob Ehrlich (R) will host a $125-per-person event in Baltimore County before the Baltimore Ravens football game Dec. 7.
Harris, the candidate of choice of state and national party leaders, is seeking a rematch next year with freshman Rep. Frank Kratovil (D), after losing by less than 1 point last year.
Harris had $313,000 in the bank as of Sept. 30, while Kratovil reported $691,000 in cash on hand.
A Kratovil spokesman said Monday that the Congressman has a busy fundraising schedule through the remainder of the year, including an event Saturday in Chestertown featuring fellow Marylander and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D).
