Markey Gets Behind Capuano’s Massachusetts Senate Bid

Rep. Mike Capuano’s (D) added another name to his recent wave of endorsements for his Senate campaign. Rep. Ed Markey, the dean of the Massachusetts House delegation and one of the final members who had yet to endorse, will formally announce his backing Tuesday afternoon in Malden, Mass., the Capuano campaign announced.

That bring to seven Capuano’s endorsements from his fellow Massachusetts congressmen, out of a total of nine — all Democrats — besides him. Rep. Niki Tsongas endorsed Capuano’s rival, state Attorney General Martha Coakley.

Capuano received endorsements from the Boston Herald newspaper on Monday and former Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis on Sunday.

The four Democratic candidates for the Senate special election are in a sprint to the finish for the Dec. 8 election.

CQ Politics rate the general election contest Safe Democratic.
