Graham Promises to Press Obama on Afghan Withdrawal Date

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will press President Barack Obama during a White House meeting Wednesday about his decision to begin withdrawing U.S. troops from Afghanistan in July 2011.

Graham, who will hold a one-on-one session with Obama at the White House, said in a brief interview that he will also discuss with the president his objections to trying Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other 9/11 terrorists in civilian court instead of by military tribunal.

Nevertheless, Graham backs adding troops and said he wants to be “helpful— to Obama on Afghanistan.

Earlier Wednesday, Graham expressed public concern about whether beginning to take troops out by July 2011 would “shortchange— the mission.
