Murtha Hospitalized With Abdominal Pain

Updated: 3:22 p.m.Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) was admitted to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda on Sunday night with abdominal pain, prompting him to postpone a scheduled Tuesday morning hearing on funding for Afghanistan. Murtha spokesman Matthew Mazonkey confirmed the 77-year-old lawmaker is recuperating, but it wasn’t immediately clear when he would reschedule the hearing — with planned testimony from Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. It was unclear whether Murtha would return to the House this week. The 19-term Pennsylvania Democrat was misdiagnosed with swine flu last week, but the illness appears related to his gall bladder. News of Murtha’s condition was first reported by Politico.
