Over the course of the next year, we will feature interviews from as many top races as possible.Montgomery City Councilwoman Martha Roby was courted by top Republican leaders early in the cycle to win back Alabama’s conservative 2nd district, which the party lost last cycle. The district, which Republicans had held since the mid-1960s and that favored Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) by 26 points in the 2008 presidential race, is at the top of GOP target lists in 2010.Standing in Roby’s way is freshman Rep. Bobby Bright (D), a former Montgomery Mayor who has amassed one of the most conservative voting records in the Democratic caucus.Roby is a Montgomery native who was elected to the City Council in 2003 and again in 2007. Before her career in public service, Roby practiced law at Copeland, Franco, Screws & Gill, P.A.
