HOH’s One-Minute Recess: Star Spotting

Several leading Hollywood denizens have swung through town this week — Sean Penn! Reese Witherspoon! — but it doesn’t get any more A-list than Oscar winners Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, who are joining former Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-N.C.) to honor 250 World War II veterans at the National World War II Memorial on Thursday.

[IMGCAP(1)]Hanks and Spielberg are executive producers of the new miniseries “The Pacific,” which premieres Sunday on HBO. Similar to its predecessor, “Band of Brothers,” the 10-part series is based on the true stories of three Marines who fought in the Pacific theater during WWII.

Actors James Badge Dale and Joe Mazzello, the leads on the series, are also appearing at the ceremony.

The 250 veterans honored Thursday traveled to D.C. via the Honor Flight Network, a nonprofit group that takes veterans to the nation’s capital to see the memorials that highlight their service.
