Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a busy working mom — and like most busy working moms, she admits she “constantly struggles” in finding ways to feed her three children healthy meals.

[IMGCAP(1)]The Florida Democrat is an original co-sponsor of a bill introduced this week by Rep. Jared Polis (D-Colo.) designed to increase vegetarian and other healthy lunch options in public schools. At a Thursday panel discussion on the bill sponsored by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (and hosted by Elizabeth Kucinich, wife of Ohio Democratic Rep. Dennis Kucinich), Wasserman Schultz admitted she and her husband don’t always feed the most nutritious foods to their 10-year-old twins and 6-year-old daughter.

But the couple does try to eat healthy when possible, she said, adding that they weigh various factors when deciding whether to pack their kids’ lunches or let them buy the meal at school.

“It is so important to know that your kids are eating nutritious foods that they’ll enjoy,” she said. “We factor in what’s being served, while also factoring in that no kid wants to keep bringing a soggy peanut butter and jelly sandwich every day.”

Wasserman Schultz wasn’t the only working mom on hand Thursday: Actress Marilu Henner also appeared at the forum, pressing the importance of nutrition in childhood development. Henner, who also lobbied several Congressional offices, argued that kids will actually eat healthy food if it’s offered to them.

“I keep saying, if you build it, they will become,” she said. “If you serve [healthy meals], people will not only show up and come, they will become the person they are meant to be.”

House of Rock. For those of you stuck at the Capitol this weekend working on health care reform legislation, an HOH tipster came across something to provide a little musical inspiration: the MySpace page for the band Slaughter Solution.

While the band’s name might be the same as the legislative tactic proposed by House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) to pass the health care bill, we’re guessing the musicians are more into hard-core rocking out than the mundane legislative business — they posted the mantra “Laid to Rest, Rest in Peace, CUT TO PIECES!” on their page, for example.

And just in case some of you dream of leaving the daily grind for the life of a rock star, we’ll pass along this helpful tip: The band is looking for a guitarist.
