Club for Growth Invests Heavily in S.C. Open-Seat Runoffs
The powerful anti-tax group Club for Growth has provided over $700,000 in financial support for two of its endorsed candidates who are competing in runoffs today in South Carolina.
In the 1st district, the club has funneled over $209,000 in contributions to state Rep. Tim Scott (R) since endorsing him on Feb. 17. That includes $62,000 in the two weeks since the June 8 primary.
The club’s political action committee has also poured another $104,000 in independent expenditures into the district. About $69,000 of that has been spent on television advertising since the primary. The rest has gone toward funding direct mail to voters.
In the 3rd district, club members have contributed nearly $190,000 to state Rep. Jeff Duncan (R) since the group endorsed him on March 23. Nearly $57,000 of that has come in the last two weeks.
The Club for Growth PAC has spent roughly $98,000 on television ads since the primary, after buying about $110,000 in ads before the primary.
The winners of both runoffs will be heavily favored to win their general election contests in November in the safely Republican districts.
