Louisiana: Internal Poll Shows Richmond Crushing Competition

An internal poll for state Rep. Cedric Richmond shows him with a wide lead in the Aug. 28 Democratic primary over fellow state Rep. Juan LaFonta in the 2nd district.

According to the survey of 341 likely Democratic primary voters, Richmond led LaFonta 53 percent to 13 percent, with 34 percent undecided.

The poll was in the field June 24-27 and had a 6-point margin of error.

The automated phone survey was conducted for the Richmond campaign by Zata 3 Consulting, a firm that has been around since 2005 but is more often known for its advocacy work. Zata 3 has conducted campaign polling in the Arkansas Democratic Senate primary this cycle, as well as in House races in Tennessee and Mississippi.

Richmond, who came in third in a seven-way primary in 2008, had a 58 percent favorable/17 percent unfavorable rating, according to the Zata 3 survey. LaFonta held a 36 percent favorable/14 percent unfavorable rating.

The winner of the Democratic primary will be favored to beat Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao (R) in the fall.
